HXW Mold designs and builds stackable cake tray molds with interlocking rim geometry, engineered so finished bakery trays nest securely one on top of another without sliding. The tooling is developed around tray dimensions, nesting depth, sheet material and the customer's thermoforming line to cut down shipping and warehouse footprint.
Whether you run single- or multi-cavity molds, we pair the forming tool with matched cutting and stacking stations so the interlocking features stay dimensionally stable shot after shot, and finished trays can be stacked, bagged and palletized efficiently.
Engineering Focus
A stackable tray only works if the rim geometry, nesting depth and tray flatness are all held to tight tolerances. Small deviations can make trays jam, slip off, or fail to release from each other when customers separate them at the bakery end.

Interlocking Rim Geometry
Rim beads, locating corners and stop steps are designed and CNC-machined to hold trays centered when stacked, preventing lateral slide while allowing easy hand separation.

Controlled Nesting Depth
Nesting stops are tuned against sheet shrinkage so the tray nests to the same depth every cycle, giving consistent stack height per 50- or 100-piece bag.

Flatness & Warp Control
Cooling channels follow the base and rim to keep tray bottoms flat and rim surfaces true, so stacked layers stay level and do not tip over on the pallet.

Auto Stacking Interface
Ejection timing, air blow-off and stacking height are matched to the machine's stacking station so interlocking trays drop straight down without cross-over or jam.

How does the interlocking design keep trays from sliding when stacked?
We machine a matching rim bead and stop step into both the top and bottom of each tray. The upper tray locates onto the lower tray by these features, so stacks stay centered during handling, palletizing and shipping without glue or sleeves.
Can you match the stack height used by our bakery customer?
Yes. Please share the required pieces per bag or per stack, and the maximum pallet height. We adjust nesting stops and rim geometry so every stack lands at the same height regardless of minor sheet-thickness variation.
Will the interlocking trays still separate easily by hand?
Yes. We tune the locating clearance so trays grip enough not to slide, but release with one hand at the bakery end. Trial samples are sent for your hands-on check before mold finalization.
Can the mold work with our existing automatic stacking station?
Yes. We design ejection timing, air blow-off and drop height around your machine's stacking station. If you share the brand and model, we confirm mechanical and pneumatic interfaces before design release.
What is the lead time for a stackable cake tray mold?
Standard lead time is around five weeks after deposit and drawing approval. Multi-cavity or multi-station projects, or when nesting geometry needs trial rounds, may add one to two weeks.
