Product Overview
HXW Mold develops custom CNC-machined blister and clamshell tooling for plastic food packaging. The mold design follows the required cavity shape, product clearance, lid and base dimensions, hinge position and closure details, with each project adapted to the selected sheet material and thermoforming equipment.
Aluminum tooling components are manufactured according to the approved drawings and assembled for the specified cavity layout. Forming molds can be supplied with matching cutting and stacking tools to support coordinated production of trays, blister packs and hinged food containers.

Blister and clamshell packaging needs accurately formed cavities, defined edges and suitable opening and closing geometry. Our design review considers the product fit, forming depth, release surfaces and downstream handling requirements as one tooling project.

Product Fit & Cavity Definition
Cavity contours, clearances and corner radii are developed around the intended contents. Vacuum and pressure paths, with plug assist where required, are evaluated to support detail reproduction and material distribution.

Surface Finish & Mold Release
Draft angles, cavity surfaces and cooling passages are reviewed together to support repeatable forming and release. The surface finish is selected according to the package design and sheet characteristics.

Hinge, Closure & Edge Trimming
For hinged containers, the connecting area and closure profile are checked against the unfolded package. Cutting positions are coordinated with the rim geometry to support the intended folding and fit.

Cavity Layout & Tooling Interfaces
The package footprint and cavity spacing are assessed against the forming area. Mounting dimensions, locating features, utility connections and stacking interfaces are matched to the production line.

Can you design blister cavities around our product?
Yes. Please provide the packaging drawing, a product sample or the required product dimensions and clearances. We will review the cavity shape, forming depth and available layout space.
Can the tooling include a hinged clamshell design?
Yes. The lid, base, hinge and closure features can be evaluated as one package. Open and closed dimensions are needed to assess forming, cutting and stacking requirements.
Which plastic sheets can be evaluated for this tooling?
PP, PET and PS sheets can be assessed according to the package geometry and forming process. For food packaging, please specify the selected sheet grade and any applicable food-contact requirements when submitting your project details.
How do you check the CNC-machined blister and clamshell molds?
We inspect the machined components and assembled tooling, followed by an in-house forming trial. Testing videos and formed samples can be provided for review before shipment.
What is the lead time for custom plastic packaging tooling?
Typical production takes 35–45 working days after receipt of the deposit and approval of the final drawing. The schedule is confirmed according to cavity complexity, layout and the required tooling set.
