HXW Mold manufactures OEM custom aluminum CNC thermoforming molds for clear PET plastic cake box lids. Each tooling project is developed around the cover height, cake clearance, display profile and mating base dimensions, with the cavity arrangement customized to the customer's thermoforming machine.
CNC-machined forming components reproduce the approved lid contours and rim details. Cooling channels, forming passages and matching cutting interfaces are planned together, while any specified 0.02–0.05 mm mold component tolerances are reviewed and confirmed against the engineering drawings before manufacturing.

Clear cake lids require attention to appearance, forming depth and cover-to-base fit. Tooling design coordinates cavity contours, surface finish, material distribution and cooling with the dimensional requirements of the finished package.

Cover Height & Display Profile
Lid height, top contours and sidewall clearance are evaluated around the cake dimensions. Corner transitions and draft angles are reviewed to support forming detail and release from the mold.

PET Forming & Surface Finish
Cavity surface requirements and forming passages are reviewed for the selected PET sheet. Plug assistance, where required, is evaluated to improve material distribution through deeper lid walls and corners.

Cooling Layout & Rim Geometry
Cooling channels are arranged according to the cover structure to support consistent forming conditions. The mating rim and trimmed outline are developed using the supplied cake base drawing or sample.

Machining Requirements & Tooling Fit
Critical mold dimensions and inspection references are defined in the approved drawings. Mounting positions, station alignment and cutting and stacking interfaces are customized to the production equipment.

Can you customize a clear PET lid to match our cake base?
Yes. Please send the cake base drawing or sample together with the required lid height and closing profile. We will review the mating dimensions during design and evaluate the fit using formed trial samples.
How are 0.02–0.05 mm tolerance requirements evaluated?
Please identify the relevant mold component dimensions, tolerance notation and inspection method on the drawing. These requirements must be reviewed and confirmed for the specific tooling. Mold machining tolerances do not automatically define the dimensional tolerance of the formed PET lid.
What details should we provide for a deep cake lid?
Please provide the cover height, top and rim dimensions, corner geometry and PET sheet thickness. We will evaluate the forming depth, material distribution and whether plug assistance is appropriate for the design.
How is the PET cake lid mold checked before shipment?
The tooling undergoes dimensional inspection and assembly checks followed by an in-house forming trial. Trial lids are reviewed for shape, appearance, trimmed edges and base fit, with testing videos and samples available for approval.
What is the lead time for an OEM cake lid tooling project?
Typical production takes 35–45 working days after receipt of the deposit and approval of the final mold drawing. The confirmed schedule depends on the lid geometry, cavity layout and required tooling scope.
